Barracuda Point, Malaysia

By Al Hornsby (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Wake up to the sight of colourful corals and sea turtles.

Early morning, usually. You're not quite awake, still sleepy from the dive the night before. You hit the water and are picked up by the brisk current. Along the steep wall you pass colourful soft corals and swaying gorgonians; turtles are everywhere, just waking up. A big school of longfin spadefish angles toward you. Then you're startled by the resident herd of 200 bumphead parrot fish, as they thunder (yes, thunder, you can actually hear them) along the reef line. Nearing the point, you drift over white tip reef sharks when suddenly you're enveloped in a vast school of horse-eye jacks. Before you know it the sea turns silver as you become part of a swirling, shimmering, circling school of blackfin barracuda, too numerous to count. The current sweeps you on. An hour has passed like minutes. You are definitely awake now.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
