A divespot teeming with a bewildering variety of critters
When the Scuba Seraya Resort was first constructed on this picturesque section of Bali's northeast coast, no one imaged the wonders that lay on its doorstep. It was soon revealed the seemingly barren slopes of black volcanic sand are teeming with a bewildering variety of critters. Scant metres from the shoreline harlequin shrimps, tiger shrimps, seahorses, and ghost pipefish prowl the bottom; while the venomous spines of the fields of fire urchins provide a safe haven for zebra carbs and Coleman shrimps. At a depth of around 20m, a jumble of rocks marks a cleaning station where hordes of hingebeak and cleaner shrimp patiently await customers. Sundown brings the night shift and a totally different array of creatures: Minute juvenile frogfish, octopus, boxer crabs, bobtail squid, and a host of colourful nudibranchs will exhaust even the most dedicated macro enthusiast.
(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
