Madi Varu, Maldives

By Steve Jones (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Diving in the Maldives leaves you with a sense of awe and amazement not found anywhere else in the world.

There are dozens of great spots in the world for getting close to one of the most graceful animals, the giant manta ray. What sets Madi Varu apart is that you've got the chance to see the majestic whale shark at the same site, along with a fantastic reef that's as colourful as they come in the glorious Maldives. The reef runs between eight and 30m deep, and the mantas are generally found on the reef top visiting the cleaning stations, and feeding off the rich waters flowing out of the atoll. Rest assured: Even if the giants that visit this reef are not cooperating, the reef itself makes a mighty fine dive.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
