Blue Corner, Micronesia

By Tim Rock (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Divers can watch grey reef sharks and schools of fishes here.

The Corner is a flat area of reef, which starts at 15m and runs for about 200m to a pointy corner that falls abruptly into the ocean depths. A strong tidal current runs through, providing food for the little guys at the bottom of the food chain, who, in turn, attract middle- and upper-chain critters. A shoal of schooling black snapper and at least a dozen reef sharks usually greet divers as they swim along the wall. Immense gorgonian sea fans and feathery black coral trees are found in the deeper reaches. But it's the corner, at 16m, where the show really begins. Divers can reef hook in and hang out to watch as grey reef sharks and schools of fishes cruise up and down the reef lip. The deeper reaches of Blue Corner harbour a large school of horse-eye jacks. Is Blue Corner the most famous dive site in the world? With bigger pelagics like hammerheads and tiger sharks, marlin, sailfish, and even schooling yellowfin tuna coming in for a visit, it surely deserves that title.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
