Shark City, Micronesia

By Ethan Daniels (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Shark City is an adrenalin-soaked adventure that amazes divers.

I see the current is ripping, which means the time is right to dive the large plateau on Palau's western barrier reef. Flying along, embraced by the flow of water, I watch as massive schools of snapper, trevally, and barracuda drift past. To one side is a sloping plateau of coral, rubble and sand. Off my other shoulder is blue space, where I can see forever. And anything can pass by. My eyes shift from giant clams to hawksbill turtles, to a cruising grey reef shark. A substantial patch of cabbage coral grows near a sand channel, where a thorny ray rests its humped bulk amidst the rubble. Camouflaged groypers watch me curiously and anemoefish squirm in their hosts as I pass. Shark City is an adrenalin-soaked dive that never ceases to surprise me, with a robust and ever-changing array of marine life. And it's a site I'd gladly visit on my last days on Earth.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
