Diving opportunities in Fujikawa Maru, Micronesia are available.
By Doug Sloss (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")
A favourite among wreck divers.
WWII air campaigns against the Japanese destroyed the naval stronghold at Truk Lagoon, depositing a couple hundred thousand tonnes of steel on the bottom of Chuuk's nutrient-rich harbour and inadvertently giving generations of scuba divers a playground for some of the best wreck diving in the world. Leading the charge for top honours of best wreck is the Fujikawa Maru. Festooned in corals, her looks are as impressive as what she contains. Full of war artefacts, her holds contain Japanese Zeros, ammunition, and hundreds of Dai Nippon Beer bottles. On deck massive bow and stern guns, well-preserved telegraphs, and dozens of anemones filled with clownfish entertain divers. The engine room is magnificent with air compressors, a machine shop, and telephone booth that give a glimpse of daily life on board a war machine. If I could dive only one wreck In Truk, the Fujikawa Maru would be it.
(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
