Steve's Bommie, Australia

By Ken Hoppen (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

The dive spot is a haven for macro life.

Steve's is the perfect pinnacle - about 36m to the bottom, with the top just three metres from the surface. With schooling fish and the occasional shark patrolling the blue water, this rock is also a haven for macro life: from leafy scoropianfish, fairy basslets, clown anemonefish, fire flame shells, and mantis shrimp, to reef stonefish, pipefish, porcelain crabs, and unicornfish. During Australia's winter months minke whales are often sighted, and can accompany divers as they circle the pillar from bottom to the top. The top of the bommie is full of life, with five species of anemonefish crammed into the tennis-court sized plateau.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
