Dillon Rock, Canada

By Simon Enderby

Well Known For :

A wonderful dive site to witness the giant Pacific octopus.

The short boat ride out to Dillon Rock is one of the most beautiful trips you'll take, with sea eagles flying overhead and brown bears patrolling the shore. As you fin down through the swaying kelp past the rock face studded with plumnose anemones to the sandy bottom, primeval chimera swim past shining in the camera lights and it's not long before you find your first wolf eel as it snakes out of its hole. With a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp and only a mother could love, they seem to seek love and affection but probably an opened sea urchin. With a little detective work you'll locate the lair of a giant Pacific octopus by the discarded crab shells at its entrance. Diving at dusk you may be extremely lucky to see these big and beautiful aliens roaming the reef and ever curious feel you out! Watch your mask and regulator - they have very strong suckers.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
