Dirty Rock, Costa Rica

By Chip Scarlett (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Dirty Rock offers great diversity, consistency, and nonstop action.

Upwellings of deep oceanic currents bearing nutrient-rich cold water are responsible for the remarkable diversity of marine life at Cocos Island. Jumping in on Dirt Rock, you never know what awaits you - it may be squadrons of huge marble rays making their way majestically past your perch in the rocks, schools of dolphins making a dramatic and noisy appearance, swarms of Jordan snappers hugging the thermocline, vast masses of bigeye trevally slowly circling in the current, or the ever-present schools of hammerheads being cleaned by yellow barberfish. More sheltered from the weather than other signature Cocos sites like Alcyone, Dirty Rock offers great diversity, consistency, and nonstop action.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
