Diving opportunities in Drowning Maud are available.
By Simon Brown (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")
One of the best cold water wreck dive in the world.
The Dronning Maud is a fantastic wreck dive, sitting upright and shipshape on her keel in 38m. The descent leads you past the forward mast straight to the deck cargo of lorries, burnt in the fire that sank the Maud but which are now home to arctic prawns and sea urchins. Finning along the port promenade deck leads to the curved seating around the stern and the emergency sterring gear. Qualified divers can return to the bows below decks. One marine toilet survived the fire, and opposite sits the cast iron bath complete with shower attachment waiting for its next occupant. The bulkhead door reveals rows of collapsed iron bedteads, before exiting the wreck adjacent to the forward hold. Only downside? The water is bone-chillingly cold.
(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
