¼ Mile, South Africa

By Roger Munns (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

The place to see Ragged-tooth sharks.

Admittedly not the most imaginatively named site in the world, but ¼ Mile does exactly what it says on the tin. You'll reach the site by launching an RIB through some decent surf and after (yes, you've guessed it) a quarter-mile trip you're on top of the site. It's shallow, best dived at high tide to minimise surge, and consists of coral bommies surrounded by white sand. Pregnant female ragged-tooth sharks patrol the area and you're also likely to see honeycomb morays, various species of stingray, and some good macro if you can tear yourself away from the sharks. Best of all: More teeth than you should rightly be able to fit in a mouth just inches away from your mask

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
