Yap Caverns, Micronesia

By Mike Veitch (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

A stunning dive spot for cavern divers.

Featuring crystal-clear water of the deepest azure, divers follow their guide through a maze of natural swim-throughs and caverns ranging from three to 15m in depth. Stuning natural light beams stream through cracks overhead and reflect off golden sand on the bottom. White tip sharks use these crevices as shelter during the day and are very approachable. A series of bommies outside of the caverns host a plethora of life as groypers and trevally hunt clouds of bright anthias hovering in the current. A cleaning station at 30m is constantly in use by grey reef and white tip sharks, with the occasional silvertip shark coming in for grooming. In the morning, watch out for the school of resident bumphead parrotfish, which shelters in the caverns at night.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
