Molasses Reef, USA

By Ned DeLoach (Adapted from "passport to diving the world")

Well Known For :

Possibly the most frequently dived stretched of reef in the Western Hemisphere.

Located in the far southwest corner of the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, Molasses Reef is possibly the most frequently dived stretched of reef in the Western Hemisphere, and with good reason. The large 90-hectare reef complex is home to one of the greatest concentrations of schooling reef fish to be found in the tropical Western Atlantic. The classic high profile spur and groove reef system, ranging in depth from three to 23m, is regularly bathed by clear water eddies and spun off from the nearby Gulf Stream. Although thick clouds of schooling grunts and snappers dominate the seascape, there are plenty of big fish lurking beneath undercuts and inside dramatic swim-throughs, Molasses is simply the classic Keys dive.

(Ok enough with the stories, I'm itchin' for a dive)
